Barbara A. Larsen, RD, MPH, Program Director
Ms Larsen became the director of the Utah Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program in January 2006. She has 20+ years of experience in public health, planning, and implementing and evaluating programs in chronic disease control. |

Karen Coats, BS, CHES, Program Coordinator
Ms. Coats has been with the HDSPP since 1992 and has extensive experience in all facets of the Program, including program planning, implementation, evaluation, and administration. Ms Coats is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the HDSPP work plan; coordinating hiring and training of Program personnel; and coordinating the HDSPP's Prevention Block Grant contracts with Utah's 12 Local Health Departments. |

Zane Shaeffer, Epidemiologist
Mr. Shaeffer came on in July 2007 as the Epidemiologist for the program, managing data surveillance, analyzation, and reports on heart disease and stroke in Utah. In addition, he monitors and evaluates many program activities and interventions. But in his free time, you will most likely find this data guru outdoors.

Patrice Isabella, MS, RD, Nutrition Coordinator
Ms. Isabella joined the program in May 2007. She is a Registered Dietitian with more than 20 years experience in public health (primarily in maternal and child health and nutrition for children with special health care needs). Ms. Isabella is the State Coordinator for the national Fruits and Veggies-More Matters program, and also works to coordinate nutrition education to prevent and reduce obesity. |

Lynda
Blades, MPH, CHES, Physical Activity Coordinator
Ms. Blades was hired as the Physical Activity Coordinator in May 2006. She has
over 13 years of experience in the health promotion field and has worked with
various state and local-level chronic disease prevention programs. In her position,
she serves as the chair of the statewide physical activity workgroup, oversees
the Active Community Environments initiative, coordinates physical activity-related
media efforts, and promotes “A Healthier You” community awards. |

Tania J. Charette, MPH, CHES, Media Coordinator
Ms. Charette joined the HDSPP group in January 2008. She handles all public relations and marketing efforts and is in charge of coordinating program visibility and serving as a liaison between the media, the community, and the HDSPP. She has experience in both public and occupational health arenas. In her free time Ms. Charette likes to spend time with her daughter, shopping, and learning new things. |

Sarah Rigby, BS Community Health, Gold Medal Schools Coordinator
Ms. Rigby interned as a Gold Medal Schools mentor for one and a half years and has been a part of the HDSPP staff since November 2003. She serves as the School Health contact as well as the Gold Medal Schools Coordinator. In addition, she is responsible for managing mentors (interns), schools coordinators and local health department contacts across the state. Ms Rigby also encourages schools to establish policy and environmental support to promote healthy behaviors to students and staff. |

Hillari Knorr, Office Technician
Ms. Knorr began working for the HDSPP in April 2001. Ms. Knorr is proficient in several word processing applications and provides efficient secretarial support to all staff members. Ms. Knorr assists the Program through an immense degree of technical and organizational support. Specifically, she monitors program expenditures, provides assistance to all staff in computer programs, and assists the Bureau Office Manager when needed. |

McKenna Christensen, Office Technician
Ms. Christensen joined the HDSPP in August 2005. She has strengthened the HDSPP by providing secretarial support to all staff members. She is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint and has a keen sense of detail and creativity. Ms. Christensen's experience includes assisting with the Height Weight Surveillance Project, creating a new Access Database for Utah schools, and helping coordinate and distribute Heart Health Surveys to 250 schools across the state. Daily, she organizes the 5 A Day Grocery Store Tours, answers Bureau telephone calls and performs data entry. In her free time she enjoys Pina Coladas and long walks on the beach. |

Nancy Thacker, RN, BSN, Secondary Prevention Coordinator
Nancy Thacker joined the staff as the secondary prevention coordinator in November 2007. Nancy is an RN with experience in public health and with clinical programs. Ms. Thacker is a liaison to our partners in the community and works with Health Plans on quality improvement. |

Sarah Davis, BS Community Health, Secondary Prevention Specialist Ms Davis was hired as the worksite specialist for cardiovascular program in January 2008. Her primary focus is improving health programs in various companies throughout Utah. In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, working out, and pursuing her artistic endeavors.

Julie Palmer, BS Community Health, Gold Medal Schools Activity Coordinator
Mrs. Palmer has been with the HDSPP since February 2008. The HDSPP and the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program have partnered to enhance the tobacco component of Gold Medal Schools. Mrs. Palmer serves as the liaison between the two programs. She also works with the Utah Department of Transportation on Safe Routes to School and manages the Gold Medal Schools Listserv as well as schools' physical activity tracking on Utahwalks.org. In her free time she enjoys cooking, playing softball, and making jewelry. |

Chelsea Hussey, BS Behavioral Science and Health, Gold Medal Schools Policy Coordinator
Ms. Hussey joined the HDSPP in November 2004 after graduating from the University of Utah. Her primary focus is strengthening Gold Medal Schools policies by providing up-to-date resources and support to schools and Program facilitators. She also oversees the 5 A Day Grocery Store Tours and manages the Gold Medal Schools web pages. |

Jane Lambert, MS Exercise Physiology, BS Medical Technology, Physical Activity Coordinator
Ms. Lambert has been with the HDSPP since 1993. While serving as the physical activity coordinator, Ms. Lambert also oversees cholesterol testing for the Program. As chairman of the Alliance physical activity workgroup, she manages the Utahwalks.org activity tracking website. Ms. Lambert resides in St. George, and commutes to Salt Lake as needed. |

Michael Friedrichs, MS, Bureau Epidemiologist
Mr. Friedrichs has been the Bureau of Health Promotion Epidemiologist and Information Analyst since 1992. He provides consultation to the Program in epidemiology and evaluation. Mr. Friedrichs has experience analyzing health behavior data such as the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), writing reports, and developing and managing information systems. |

Shelly Wagstaff, Bureau Information Analyst
Ms. Wagstaff is located in the Bureau of Chronic Disease and has extensive experience in analyzing data generated by the Program. She has experience in analyzing data sets such as BRFSS, YRBS, mortality, hospital discharge data, other IBIS databases, and links to other Health Promotion data bases, e.g. Healthy Utah, tobacco, diabetes, cancer, etc. |
