Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Policy Table
The Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Policy Table is an inventory of statewide policies that are likely to influence the impact of heart disease and stroke in Utah. It reflects policies identified through 2010. The table is intended for a broad audience: Utah Department of Health programs, local health departments, other public and private health organizations, universities and researchers, and members of the public. The table was developed by the Utah Department of Health’s Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program (HDSPP) and the American Heart Association (AHA) in partnership with the Alliance for Cardiovascular Health in Utah (ACHU).

Sodium Intake in Adults - United States, 2005-2006
Less than 10 percent of American adults limit their daily sodium intake to recommended levels, according to a new report, "Sodium Intake in Adults - United States, 2005-2006," published today in CDC'S Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Overconsumption of sodium may have negative health effects, including increasing average levels of blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. This report also finds that most sodium in the American diet comes from grains and meats, foods that may not necessarily taste salty.
